Blog 3: Physical Puzzle

 Physical Puzzle

My Physical Puzzle

My puzzle starts out with a question, which is answered by folding the paper on the lines to make an image.

Puzzle Type

My puzzle is an "Information Puzzle" because it requires the user to supply the answer to the question by folding the paper.

Avoiding Bad Design

"Designer" Puzzle

My puzzle avoids the bad design of the "Designer" puzzle because the question and answer is something that most, if not almost all, people know the answer to.

Good Design Principals

Fairness

My puzzle is fair because it includes the solution on the same sheet of paper.

The "V-8" Response

My puzzle may or may not achieve the V-8 response, but it does not make the user feel like the puzzle is unfair.

Natural to the Environment

While this may not apply in the sense that we may think of, my puzzle is natural to the environment because it has a theme in which the question and answer fit.

Levels of Difficulty

Bread Crumbs

My puzzle has "bread crumbs" by having the lines and the bottom piece of the image under the question in the puzzle, which helps give a hint to the user.

Proximity of puzzle to solution

My puzzle has the solution/hint not too far away from the question since the hint is at the bottom of the same page.

What my puzzle does not include

My puzzle does not contain any Red Herrings, Alternate solutions, or Steering the player.

UE4 Puzzle

Description

My UE4 puzzle will have a word problem, in which the player will be hinted to stand in a certain spot and an image or a clue will appear.

How it adheres to the principals

Avoiding Bad Design

My UE4 puzzle will adhere to the "Designer" puzzle by having the solution be something that all people will be able to get.

Good Design Principals

My puzzle will include fairness by having the solution in the same relative location as the player. Also, it will have the V-8 response by having the puzzle be something that the player can get but something they have to think about for a minute before solving it. Lastly, the puzzle will be natural to the environment and will be natural to the environment that the puzzle is in (probably the theme of the jungle or Indiana Jones because of the boulder).

Levels of Difficulty

My puzzle will leave bread crumbs for the player to be able to follow to get to the solution by giving hints that all players will understand. The proximity of the puzzle to the solution will be relatively close to each other. Lastly, my puzzle will not include and Red Herrings, Alternate solutions, or Steering the player.
